How to build a website with WordPress?

What is WordPress?

WordPress is a free and open-source content management system licensed under the GPLv2 license, which means that anyone can use or modify the WordPress software.

What do we require to create a website?

Domain Title

A domain name is the internet address for your website. This is what your visitors will enter into their browsers to get to your site (For example, google.com).

Setting up your domain name and selecting your WordPress hosting provider usually happen at the same time during the website creation process.

Web hosting or Web space (the location of your website's files in the cloud)

Your hosting provider has an impact on the speed, security, and dependability of your website.

Hosting necessities

  • PHP 7.4 or higher is required.
  • MySQL 5.6 or higher OR MariaDB version 10.1 or higher
  • HTTPS compatibility

When looking for a WordPress hosting provider, make sure they meet all of the above requirements. Obtaining a domain name is as simple as searching for and purchasing one through your preferred domain registrar. If you’re new to WordPress.com but have already purchased and registered a domain name elsewhere, you can transfer or map it to your WordPress website.

Install WordPress

For example, if GoDaddy is your web hosting provider, sign in to your account, click Web Hosting, and then Manage. You will be taken to a screen with your account information.

Scroll down to the section titled Popular Apps, which is located under Options & Settings. To begin the installation of the WordPress app, click on it.

Following the installation of WordPress, you’ll be prompted to provide information about the domain you want to use, the directory where you want to install WordPress, and your admin information.

Your website will be installed to your hosting account within 24 hours, and GoDaddy will send you an email confirmation.

After you’ve set up your domain and installed WordPress, you’ll need to configure your “Primary Domain” within WordPress so that your visitors see your website when they search your domain.

Go to My Site > Domains in WordPress. Choose the custom domain that will be your primary domain.

Then, click Make Primary.

Confirm you meant to make this change by clicking Update Primary Domain.

Look for a green box with a checkmark that says Primary Domain to confirm the update was successful.

Select and personalize your theme.

You can personalize your WordPress website by using one of the many themes and templates available, each of which includes a plethora of layouts, formatting styles, colours, fonts, and other visual options.

WordPress also has hundreds of themes and templates to choose from. You can further customize your pages with a builder tool like Elementor on top of your theme. When you’ve found the ideal theme, simply install it to begin customizing.
